Activated partial thromboplastin time ratio is a marker of coagulopathy

It is often assumed that conventional coagulopathy tests (INR and APTT) monitor coagulation. However, it is possible that these tests appear normal while the overall state of blood coagulation is abnormal. Routine practice to detect traumatic coagulopathy should include thromboelastometry as well as INR and APTT.
